News & Events at Westlands Retirement Home
First I want to say a huge big "thank you" to everyone who contributed towards my sponsored trip to Everest Base Camp. We raised nearly £1500 for Vitalise Holidays and I had a great time ... although it was hard at times. Climbing at 5,000 metres with limited oxygen and heavy legs is tough indeed. But the scenery was wonderful and the air, the silence, the stars were all fantastic. We got all of our blind trekkers safely there - and back! - and the sense of achievement was enormous.
Back at Westlands, they were following my progress with a big map on the wall, a copy of my itinerary and the few emails I was able to send from the Himalayas.
Now that 2012 is here, we are delighted that Howard's new knee is fixed enough for him to be taking everyone out and about around the countryside again. We have trips planned over the moors, to Powderham Castle and a mystery trip before the end of the month. At home, we have a bit of pampering planned and the usual bingo, quizzes and armchair exercises. Jenny and Bel are going to host an afternoon tea and the chiropodist and hairdresser will be in as usual.
Valentine's Day falls on a Tuesday this year and we will be welcoming our favourite John Hammond with a programme of romantic music for an afternoon of hearts and roses. Do come along and stay for tea and a restful and enjoyable afternoon. Shrove Tuesday is the following week and - as always - Westlands kitchen will be full of mirth as staff (and residents?) try their hand at pancake tossing. Do join us for some fun and laughter.
Open Lunches continue on the first Wednesday of every month - just £4.50 for a delicious roast dinner and a glass (or two!) of wine. Everyone is welcome but please call Liz to let her know you are coming. And it's Open House for all of our activities and entertainments and we especially want to welcome anyone who is on their own in 2012. Just call Liz on 01626 773007 to be sure of a warm welcome.
